On the Mend

It took a few days, but ALL of the Davis's are back among the land of the living. Dusty was pretty much recovered by Monday. Avery Claire seemed to feel a lot better Monday, too. So we headed to Target and gymnastics late that afternoon.

I will admit that I was feeling achy all day Monday. I blamed it on some sinus issues. However, the plague hit me Monday night. I'll spare you the details, but the first time my very achy self was able to sit up for more than a few minutes was yesterday morning. I would have bet $ that I had the flu Tuesday morning. I've never in my life felt like that - except when I had the flu.

Avery Claire woke up at 5:30 Tuesday morning sick again, so Dusty had to take off, too, to take care of her. We've been a sad sight, folks..

Avery Claire and Dusty went back to school. By lunchtime, I decided I could sit up in the bed and work on a few school things...with snow days and President's day and sick days, I've been in school one and half days of the last 12. Needless to say, I'm way behind on my school to-do list. And Read Across America Week AND my book fair are coming up week after next.

Yesterday afternoon, we were all ready for some fresh air. We went outside for a bit and it was glorious.

Dusty played on Avery Claire's PlaySkool basketball goal and she directed us as to when we needed to talk and when we needed to clap. She's back to 100%, I'd say.

I went back to school today. After I got us both dressed and delivered her to school this morning, I was worn out and didn't know if I could make it a whole day!

After she HAD to change clothes, we're outside again this afternoon, about to blow away. I'd say those storm predictions are pretty accurate if this wind is any indication!

Davis #2 Down for the Count

Avery Claire and I decided this morning that we were going to church. She was amazed that Dusty had slept all day yesterday and didn't even get out of bed. She was spared his visits to the bathrooms.

After I washed my hair and put on my make up this morning, I went to check on Avery Claire in the living room. She complained that her belly hurt. I asked if she was hungry and she said she wanted a pancake. I threw away the bowl of Cap'N Crunch I'd already fixed her (but I wasn't alarmed - this happens half of the time). I put the pancake in front of her and she took one teeny tiny bite. Like the size of a speck of dust. And promptly threw up all over her plate. I cleaned her up and got her bowl and she sat on the bathroom rug while I dried my hair.
We went straight to the couch, where she continued to throw up. About 5 times within an hour and a half. I could get her to sip some Sprite, which she'd promptly throw up. And she had to make a trip to the toilet, if you catch my drift. She was pitiful.

I sent a message to our neighbor friend who works at our pediatrician's office. She gave me some advice and I headed to Walmart. I've never been hesitant to leave Avery Claire in Dusty's hands, but today was an exception. He was in no shape to handle any kind of major clean ups. She slept the entire time I was gone, of course.

After I got home and started giving her a little Pedialite every 15 minutes, she started to feel better. After we laid on the couch for a couple of hours, she drank some Sprite and asked for something to eat. She has done nothing but lay on me all day, but she hasn't thrown up or been back to the bathroom.

We went outside for a little bit and she sat in my lap and watched The Magic School Bus on her iPad. But the fresh air was good for both of us!

She did manage to paint for a few minutes. I really needed to get some contaminated clothes in the washing machine!

She is still laying on me while we watch our 8th hour of Good Luck, Charlie. I'm not sure who's more interested, me or her. And I'm happy to report that Dusty just asked me to fix him some Ramen noodles. Let's pray those stay down. And please say a big prayer that I don't get this mess. No one in this house would fair well.

Jumpy Place Birthday Party {and quarantined Daddy}

We went to Avery Claire's friend Zoey's birthday party today.

See that kid in the pink sweatshirt climbing up that gigantic slide thingy? She's mine.

And there she is, coming down. Didn't bat an eye. Y'all. This thing was gigantic. I've seen big blow up slides, but not the likes of this one. I was terrified for her. I'm sure I don't have to tell you this wasn't her last trip up (or down).

This picture doesn't do the sweat on their heads justice.

Best I could get of her and her little friend Ryan. He was saying, "I'll say cheese!"

I asked her if she could model her shirt for me and she immediately struck a pose.

I strategically helped her avoid taking a nap this afternoon. I knew we had to wash her hair. And her Daddy's been in bed (or beside the toilet) all day with this vicious virus that's going around. So, although I enjoyed spending lots of sweet quality time with my girl, I've been flying solo today and I'm pretty exhausted. So, she was out like a light at 8:00. And it's almost midnight and I've watched a movie on Netflix and updated the blog. I'm debating whether I need to sleep in the quarantined room or just camp out on the couch. It's like with a baby - I need to be able to hear him during the night to know if he needs me.

Those eyelashes. I put this picture on Facebook and got comments that she looks just like me. And she does, I know. But she's so beautiful. And y'all know my lashes are not that full and pretty.

Happy Valentine's Day

Avery Claire has been so excited about Valentine's Day this year. She couldn't wait to take her Valentine's cards (which I didn't even get a picture of!) to her friends at school. We printed cards that said "Valentine, You Make Me GLOW!" and punched holes for a glow bracelet to stick through them. They turned out super cute!

She was ready to go this morning because her class was having a party! She picked out this bear a couple of weeks ago and was so shocked that we'd snuck it to surprise her!

I got to go her party for just a few minutes. I love seeing her and her sweet little friends interact at school!

We got Outback to go to avoid the long waits. It's evidence, I guess, that we're getting old.

I don't need Valentine's Day to tell these two how much I love them. I'm so proud they're mine and thank God for them every day.

I walked into the kitchen to find all of her Valentine's Day loot lined up on the kitchen floor. "Mom, don't clean this up, okay? I need it tomorrow." As she stuffed her mouth with yet another piece of candy from said loot.

Snow Week

We've been hearing about this impending winter storm for at least a week. So they went ahead and delayed school for Tuesday. Before the snow even started, but after Governor Bentley declared a State of Emergency, they cancelled schools all around us. We woke up Tuesday morning to around an inch of the white stuff! Avery Claire was beyond excited and ready to go build a snow man.

We tried hard to build one, but the snow just wouldn't pack enough to get one started.

I had to throw this picture in...the girl is good. She made a mess (of tiny paper giblets), and went to get the Swiffer to clean it up!

Around 3:00, she was going stir crazy already. So I told our neighbor to let Parker come play.
They played dinosaurs and cars.

And Barbies.

And then they got into their electronic devices and ignored everything around them.

Parker ate dinner with us and then we bundled up and walked him back home. The snow had all melted by lunch and left a slushy mess.

School was cancelled for Wednesday, too. The second wave of snow started early Wednesday night, but it came down fast!

These two went on a camping trip.

And there were bears there!!!

Scary ones!!

We put our bowl out and Avery Claire couldn't wait to try snow cream, which she loved!!

Thursday morning, we had between 1-2 inches. No school again!

We went out and played for quite a bit. It wasn't bitterly cold, so we could stand it! We threw snowballs and ran and played, but the snow was too much like ice to build a snowman with!

I had to do this throw back to January 2011. We had about 8 inches of snow that year. Look at those sweet, fat cheeks!!

Counting Practice, Davis Style

You mean you don't practice counting with your kids by using Rook cards?

Daddy Might Be a Sucker

This girl is seriously too precious for words. If you know her, you know she is just as sweet as she looks. I love her sweet little heart.

I had a women's conference Friday night and Saturday morning. I started preparing Avery Claire early so she'd be okay with me coming home after school and then leaving again. When her Daddy promised her a trip to Walmart, she quickly told me "bye" and never looked back.
They made a trip to Hibbett, where they found a deal on new tennis shoes they just couldn't pass up. She also <strike> suckered </strike> talked him into a 25 pack of chapstick, lip gloss, and nail polish she's been eyeing for some time. You can't turn her down, really. It's dangerous.

She came to me while I was in the tub and was worried about cleaning the bottom of her new shoes 'cause they'd gotten dirty at places with dirty floors, like Walmart.

By the way, if you haven't heard of Natalie Askew, you will. She goes to our church and has a single out called "Lay Them Down." You should download it!! I absolutely love to hear her sing and was so excited to know she would be leading this weekend!

Pray for our church, please. Pray for our pastor as he leads our church through a really hard thing. And pray for the many people who were affected by a really horrible situation. I pray God uses this for His glory, even if it's hard to see now.

Dentist Visit #2

It's been 6 months since her first visit, so Avery Claire had to go in for her 2nd cleaning Tuesday. She was so excited because she remembered that she'd get to visit their treasure chest and get floss!

She was such a big girl.

She had the bright idea that if she was big, she could go get a Frosty afterwards. And who was I to turn that request down?

I think I'm gonna ask for a pair of sunglasses from the kid drawer the next time I go to the dentist!
