Sick Again

Avery Claire was very fussy last night, but her Mommy just thought she was sleepy and a little ill because of it. No...when we got home from the ballgame, she had a fever. She cried all night Friday night and ran a fever, so we took her to the doctor Saturday. Dr. Colvard was on call (he's our pediatrician), and he said her ears and throat looked good. So, he ordered blood work, a urine sample, and a chest x-ray. He wanted to rule out a urinary tract infection and pneumonia. He wanted the blood sample so he could determine if her problem was viral or bacterial.

So, Mommy and Daddy watched while our sweet girl had to get a catheter put in. We had to hold her down to get an x-ray and to get blood drawn (and be stuck in both arms because they couldn't get blood on the first try). Her white count was elevated, which meant infection somewhere. So, Dr. Colvard said we had 2 choices: 1) Rocefin shot and Tylenol, watch her closely, and bring her back tomorrow or 2) admit her to the hospital for observation and an IV. He felt okay with the shot and Tylenol and told us to bypass the nurse if we had to call and have him paged immediately. Needless to say, we were a wreck!

Thankfully, though, Avery Claire was feeling better by late afternoon Saturday and was almost back to her usual self by this afternoon! We are so glad to see smiles and hear squeals again!
